— Structure: One-party state. In theory, the governing Politburo is elected by the Central Committee of the party, itself chosen by a party congress.

— Head of government: ຈູມມະລີ ໄຊຍະສອນ « Cummali Jæñaso’n », general secretary and president.
— Assessment: One-party state; show elections are held in which only the ruling party is represented. The ruling party, under the umbrella of the ປະເທດລາວ « Padē'd Lāŭ », was essentially created from and installed by the Đảng Cộng Sản Đông Dương (Việt Nam-dominated precursor to the modern Đảng Cộng Sản Việt Nam) as the latter conquered territory in ລາວ « Lāŭ », starting in the 1960s, finally taking ວຽງຈັນ « Ŭiaŋcan » in 1975. ຈູມມະລີ « Cummali » became head of government in 2006.
